Glucosamine and chondroitin have emerged as both a safe and effective solution in maintaining healthy joint function and mobility. Glucosamine is an amino sugar precursor to components of cartilage called glycosaminoglycan's, which are necessary for cartilage production. Chondroitin is the most abundant glycosaminoglycan in cartilage and inhibits production of enzymes that can degrade cartilage. Numerous studies of glucosamine and chondroitin have been conducted demonstrating that both are well absorbed and are safe and well tolerated. One study compared radiographic evidence in 212 patients given either glucosamine or placebo over a three-year period. Results of the study showed that patients supplementing with glucosamine maintained a greater amount of articular cartilage than placebo. Endure-flex is a sustained release formulation which prolongs the release of the active ingredients and enables a twice daily regimen. Endure-flex also uses glucosamine hydrochloride rather than glucosamine sulfate. The hydrochloride form provides almost twice the bioactive ingredient as the sulfate form by weight. Therefore, Endure-flex provides more bioactive glucosamine in two tablets than most other products supply in three tablets.
