Figs are well-loved as container plants because they bear fruit at a young and are self-fertile without the need of a cross-pollinator. Black Mission is a classic, all purpose fig that is sweet, black in color on the inside and out. The fruit is sweet and delicious fresh as well as dried for preserves and snacks all year round. Figs may yield 2 distinct crops in proper locations with a long, warm growing season. They will ripen in June-July and then produce a fall crop. They will grow well in containers for several years, but may be need to planted after 4-5 years. Black Mission can be grown from Central to Southern States and climate zones 7-10.
