“I killed your parents.”

I wanted to tell my boss, Roland Shepard, just how wrong he was. He wasn’t responsible for their death; I was. I just couldn’t bring myself to say the words that I so badly wanted to say. I was so worried that it would change how he felt about me, and for some reason, that mattered. I liked and respected Roland…and thought at times there was even more to it than that.

To cover for my guilt, I dove headfirst into my work. I also started dating Roland’s handsome brother, Dan Shepard. There’s nothing in the employee handbook about interoffice dating, yet it didn’t feel right to tell Roland about it…besides Dan and I were taking things slow.
