The Chinese Date tree grows 15 to 40 feet tall. The Chinese Date tree produces an edible oval drupe fruit (date) that is used extensively in traditional Chinese medicine. Chinese dates are an important ingredient in many Chinese foods. It flowers in the summer and then harvests fruit. Also known as 'Indian JuJube'; the Chinese Date tree grows wild in the eastern Caribbean and Jamaica. It is used as a shade tree. Part of the Buckthorn family, the Ziziphus jujube has thorny branches.
