What are Probiotics?
Probiotics provide our bodies with necessary living microorganisms which are thought to be beneficial for our overall health and well being. Specifically, probiotics are recognized for their benefits in promoting a healthy digestive tract and immune system including the reduction of pathogens responsible for diarrhea and the restoration of microflora in the intestinal tract following the use of antibiotics.
Our Probiotic-50 provides about 50 Billion living micro-organisms at the time of manufacturing, and offers an effective blend of the following key probiotic strains, plus more:
Lactobacillus acidophilus: Acidophilus in naturally found in the intestinal tract. It is characterized as being a rod-shaped motile bacteria that grows in, or without the presense of oxygen. L. acidophilus is also characterized as a homofermentative that only produces lactic acid as its sole product. L. acidophilus is naturally found in the human and animal GI tract, mouth and vagina, and helps aid in maintaining the intestinal flora.
Bifidobacterium Lactis: Bifidobacterium is known for its ability to stimulate the body's immune response and enhance the cellular immunity in the elderly.
Lactobcillus Plantarum: This is one of the most beneficial bacteria in your body. The ability of L. plantarum to produce antimicrobial substances helps them survive in the gastro-intestinal tract of humans. The antimicrobial substances produced have shown significant effect on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Lactobcillus plantarum is known for its health benefits in digestive support and supporting healthy cholesterol.
Lactobacillus Paracasei: Known for helping treat diarrhea in infants, helps reduce pollen allergies and some people have reported relief of symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome.
