To determine the proper width, first look on the back of your existing strap/band to see if the width is embossed/printed there. If not, measure watch lug width where the current band attaches. No ruler nearby? A nickel is slightly wider than 21mm and a quarter is slightly wider than 24mm.

Easy tool free installation(remove original strap with spring bar tool or small knife):
1.Feed strap from top at 12 o'clock between spring bar and watch case.
2.Pull through behind watch head and back up between spring bar and watch case at 6 o'clock.
3.Run through stainless steel ring(s) on short strap and center watch head as needed.

To shorten the strap without a laser, cut to desired length and melt cut end quickly and carefully with a match or lighter flame to seal edge.
