Cetyl Myristoleate (CMO) is a Cetylated Fatty Acid (CFA) used to help lubricate joints and muscles and relieve symptoms associated with osteoarthritis. There have been many studies on CMO's effectiveness - according to Arthritis Research UK, a trial evaluating the role of CFA's in treating patients with knee osteoarthritis reported an increased knee flexion in patients after 68 days of taking CMO. It has been proposed that CFAs have a lubricant effect on joints and have an anti-inflammatory effect by enhancing chemicals in the body (Prostaglandins) that fight joint inflammation.

Glucosamine actually occurs naturally in the body where it plays a role in the smooth working of joints and helps maintain connective tissues. As we get older our bodies start producing less Glucosamine. This gradual diminishing of Glucosamine production causes the bone cartilage to lose some of its elasticity and become stiff and inflexible, eventually resulting in osteoarthritis. Several measurements of pain, tenderness, mobility, and ability to perform stressful knee movements were assessed periodically throughout the study.

Chondroitin is also found naturally in the body and is a vital part of joint cartilage. It gives cartilage elasticity by helping it retain water. Arthritis Research UK has highlighted 16 trials to assess the effectiveness of Chondroitin against placebo. In 12 out of the 16 trials, it was found that Chondroitin was significantly superior to placebo in relieving pain. It was also found in 12 out of 16 trials that Chondroitin is more effective than placebo in terms of reducing dependence on analgesic drugs.
