The term ORAC means Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity. The ORAC scale was developed in order to classify foods richest in antioxidants. The higher the ORAC value, the higher the level of antioxidants in the food. What do antioxidants do? Antioxidants are molecules that scavenge the body for free radicals, removing them from your system. They actually inhibit the oxidation process in other molecules. What does oxidation and free radicals do to my body? Oxidation is a process that produces free radicals. Free radicals are like toxic waste in your body that ravage healthy cells.
