This is the 2006 addition to the Lunar New Year Series. Over a 12 year period, Chinese-American artist Clarence Lee created a paper-cut image of each animal of the zodiac. This sheet features contains one of every lunar year stamp, each valued at 39 cents. The design also includes calligraphy by Lau Bun that translates in English as "Year of the [Animal]," and the greeting "Happy New Year!" According to an ancient fable, the Chinese emperor ordered all animals to report to him on the first day of the new year, with the first 12 animals who appeared before him getting a year named after them. Each year represents the characteristics of the corresponding animal. See other items from the Chinese Lunar New Years series.
