In 1965, Joe Weider created the Mr. Olympia competition to determine the world’s best-built man. The first contest crowned a winner from a pool of three contestants in front of a crowd of 2,500 at New York City’s Brooklyn Academy of Music. In the 52 years since, the event has grown to represent the pinnacle of competitive bodybuilding featuring the top IFBB professional athletes, attracting over 50,000 fans during the three-day expo in the Las Vegas Convention Center, and awarding over $1.3MM in prize money annually.
