During the Second World War, which the Soviet Union calls the Great Patriotic War, 2000 Soviet women were trained as snipers. Of those 2,000 only 800 lived to see the end of the war. Few of these women ever wrote their memoirs as snipers. But some kept revealing notes on their experiences and careful records of their surprisingly large number of confirmed kills.
