Bamboo is a very fast-growing, tropical member of the grass family. The most difficult part of propagating bamboo from seed is finding the seeds. Instructions 1 Rinse the bamboo seeds in tap water. 2 Pour 1/4 cup water into a bowl and mix in 3 tbsp. salt. Add the bamboo seeds to the solution and allow them to soak for five minutes. Plant in your desired location Seed germination will occur from 8 to 25 days after planting the seeds. Bamboo is a giant grass and achieves new heights every year by sending up new and larger shoots each spring. Usually starting between April and June, the new shoots will emerge from ground. Good Eating Fresh bamboo shoots are a specialty perennial crop. Delicious and nutritious, they're low in fat and high in water and fiber. Locally grown shoots (a rarity in this country) are scooped up by upscale Asian or vegetarian restaurants and at farmers' markets.
