‘Quest in the Caribbean’ is the final book in the Quest Series. Wendy and I have learned to become sailors. We thank our lucky stars every day that the sea has been merciful to us. The sea is our home, but it can also be a strict master and unforgiving teacher. We learn our lessons one day and one problem at a time. But more importantly, Wendy and I learn a great deal about each other and what it takes to be good companions on a tiny boat. Compatibility on a cruising boat is the irreplaceable ingredient that keeps the cruise alive.
The first chapter of ‘Quest in the Caribbean’ begins on a beautiful day in the British Virgin Islands. I sit at the bow and contemplate my next feat of tricky maneuvering, the very narrow and shallow reef between Saba Rock and The Bitter End Yacht Club at the north end of Virgin Gorda USVI. In some ways the journey has just begun. There are many more islands to explore and miles to sail before the journey is complete.
Some of the wonders that await our eager eyes are Saba, the fabled ‘island in the clouds’ and the neighboring island of Statia. The serenely beautiful island of Nevis, Montserrat’s volcanoes, the gentle people of Dominica, Saint Lucia and the Grenadines all enrich our lives. ‘Quest in the Caribbean’ ends on the south shore of Grenada as we fulfill a destiny that was many hard years in the making.
