Roll pin punches of smaller sizes are NOT brute force items. It is advised you do not beat on them with large hammers, you MUST make sure you are driving the pin in the correct direction, as the holes they are used in are tapered.

You must make sure the punch is absolutely straight and inline with the pin you are removing and the work piece MUST be properly supported with a proper bench block, this prevents the piece from shifting as well as having a hole to allow the pin to exit through.

If you don't have a block available then order one, and do NOT use a plastic/nylon mallet to drive them. use brass/copper or steel as anything that bounces loses power breaking spring tension supplied by roll pins free.
