This production is part of Arthaus Musiks Elegance Series, which is a collection of ballet performances from the worlds best dance houses featuring the greatest choreographers and celebrating the legacy of legendary choreographer Marius Petipa. This music is the first large scale stage work which composer Bruno Mantovani has written. Coupled with choreography by master choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, this release features the world premiere recording, live from the Opera Bastille, Paris, 2010. The story is of one who will become enlightened, or Buddha, and Preljocaj gives the theme a personal, free reading in which he investigates the themes of test, sacrifice, and transcendence in the quest for the absolute.
