This production of Tchaikovskys most famous ballet, The Nutcracker is part of Arthaus Musiks Elegance Series, which is a collection of ballet performances from the worlds best dance houses featuring the greatest choreographers and celebrating the legacy of legendary choreographer Marius Petipa. This particular staging is done by Patrice Bart after the original choreography by Marius Petipa, and was recorded in 1999, exactly 107 years to the day after the first performance in St. Petersburg. Bart has placed a prologue before the ballet, which is an interesting and modern spin on such a classic work.
