In a closet full of dark, monochromatic winter kit, the Castelli Men's Velocissimo Jersey stands out for both its style and functionality. Featuring warm thermal fabrics, complementary colorways, and reflective accents, this jersey stands alone on chilly days and layers well over a warm baselayer or under a jacket when the temperatures plummet. The secret to this jersey lies in Castelli's use of Warmer fabric for the main body and Warmer X-Stretch for the side panels and sleeves. This synthetic textile features a fleecy inside for a balance of next-to-skin comfort, wicking performance, and thermal insulation. The Warmer X-Stretch is a more elastic version that fits tighter under and across the arms, reducing flapping and drag caused by excess material to maintain the Velocissimo's streamlined fit. Though Castelli claims that this jersey provides ideal warmth for temperatures ranging from 55-68 degrees Fahrenheit, we'd happily pair it with a baselayer well under those temperatures without any concerns. We also find that even the low 60s can be too warm for the Velocissimo, but we should note that our preferences are tempered by the cold winters of Northern Utah and aren't necessarily universal. For finishing touches, Castelli adds an elastic gripper at the waist and three rear pockets with enough space to carry snacks and other small essentials along for the ride.
