This project endeavours to serve two kinds of readers at the same time, those who like history and those who like A Game of Thrones; the two are often mutual interests. Mr. Martin seems to have a particular affinity for the Medieval Period (5th-15th centuries CE) of Europe and Middle -East, with a great deal of inspiration coming from British history during that era. In addition, he draws heavy influence from the Renaissance Era (15th-17th centuries CE). He is also not afraid to dive further back into human history for literary fuel, the ancient Celts, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Persians among others are all present in some form within the ASOIAF world. Nearly every culture on Earth, along with a bit of its history has a place in the sun within Martin’s revolutionary fantasy world.

Perhaps you had been reading a Dothraki passage in one of the books, or maybe you were watching Jason Mamoa’s brilliant performance as Khal Drogo and suddenly thought to yourself: “Wow, the Dothraki really remind me of Mongol warriors” ; there are several reasons for that common observation, they are found here in the first chapter. If one gets the impression that the Ironborne have Viking overtones going on, you’re not mad; they do and we will cover it. Perhaps you are a fan of House Martell of Dorne and you get a distinct Moroccan and Moorish Spain vibe from the Dornish, your vibes are spot on; the parallels will be examined.
