Bright well Aquatics "Xport-NO3 Brick" is a high porosity, dimpled filtration brick for nitrate removal that boasts the largest useable surface area, per unit weight or volume, of any filtration media in the world. Each brick provides over 71,000 square feet of surface area per liter of medium, and 100,000 square feet of useable surface area for bacterial colonization. Each plate is doped with sulfur to act as an electron donor to accelerate the denitrification process, and can be used in marine, freshwater or pond applications. It is so porous that it wicks water and stays wet for days when drained, allowing bacteria to remain viable after an equipment failure and ready for the repair. XPort NO3 bricks are also doped with aragonite to buffer pH at the bacterial level, preventing acid buildup which eventually would kill the bacteria and reduce capacity (which is exactly what happens with competing products).
