Grace believes that Jack is her destiny. He's also her way out of a bleak existence. As she falls in love with him, she realizes he's tough and demanding. On her very first day with him, he reprimands her and questions her manners. She's annoyed, but not ready to give up yet.

She becomes close friends with his housekeeper and learns enough to make her be willing to give Jack another chance, even though she's almost ready to give up. Christmas is a difficult time for him and she wants to help him through the season if he'll let her. She's strong, but she doesn't have to take a nasty disposition just because he wants to be that way.

A tragedy from home makes Grace have to leave Jack to go back to her family. She decides it's for the best and she writes Jack that she's not coming back to him. Will he mourn her decision? Will he be relieved? Will he decide to finally be the man he should have been all along?
