A fast grower! The Silver Maple Tree is a tall, vase-shaped, native tree of North America. This large sized tree has a spreading canopy providing shady are for those hot summer days. Medium green leaves with silvery undersides emerge in spring and last through summer, then turning lovely fall shades of green-yellow brown to yellow to brown. Winged seeds, called samaras, are produced in late spring and are the largest seeds of all native maples attracting a variety of birds and small mammals, such as squirrels. Silver Maple grows in a wide range of soil types but prefers deep, moist, well-drained, acidic soil and receiving full sun. As a fast grower, this maple is the perfect shade tree reaching 50'-80' in height with a 35'-50' spread at maturity. Tip: Potted dormant perennials can be kept in a well-lit cool/cold area (ie. Garage, shed, even in a protected area outdoors) until ready for spring planting. Do not allow them to completely dry out.
