A small extra ledge in your aquarium can add that extra dimension and interest to really make your tank come to life. The transparent acrylic or plexiglass will give the illusion of a floating decor and plants in the middle of your tank. Add a stone castle for your fish to swim in and out of, or a cave on top of extra substrate. Spread colorful stones or sand evenly over the shelf to create another level in your aquascape.

Placing the shelf near the surface of the tank will allow you to plant herbs and other plants , so that the roots are in the water while the leaves are above the surface. The plants will recycle the water, absorb toxic chemical like nitrates to prevent any nitrate poisoning. This can be very beneficial for the overall health of you fish and aquarium life.
