The tin layer protects the copper core from oxidizing and accepts solder with minimal cleaning. Tinned copper wire will take patina and is stronger than bare copper. The 14 gauge wire can be used to add decoration to stained glass projects and is strong enough to use as reinforcement or jump rings. 4 ounce spool contains approximately 20 feet of wire.
