1" x 30" Leather Strop

This leather strop is a high quality honing belt that is made to the highest standards for sharpening knives and other utensils. It is made of 4/5oz (1.6-2.0mm) thick veg tanned leather to reduce stretching.

For those that don't know, honing is an abrasive process that produces a precision surface on a metal workpiece by scrubbing an abrasive surface against it along a controlled path.
Honing is primarily used to improve the geometric form of a surface, but may also improve the surface texture.

So in short, this belt is used to finish off your sharp edge and provide you with a very fine, very smooth, polished edge. This finely polished edge will be as smooth as glass and will give the knife a better cutting ability versus a knife that wasn't honed and still has the very small burrs left on it.
Even after sharpening a knife with a very fine grit, the finished edge can still be brought to an even sharper point by doing the final step of sharpening on leather.

This leather belt is made a little less than 30" to allow for stretching. It will be very tight when you first put it on your sander. If it won't quite fit, give the belt a few tugs with your hands so as to slightly stretch it out. Then try putting it on your sander again.
Make sure to remove the belt from the sander when not in use. This will also help reduce stretching over time

Instructions:

Step 1: Attach leather strop to sander with smooth side facing out. The smooth side is the side you will be sharpening on.
Step 2: Turn on sander and apply buffing compound by lightly pressing it on the smooth side.
Step 3: Cover the entire leather surface with the compound.
Step 4: Lightly press the blade against the leather. Don't push too hard! Adjust the angle of the blade by raising it slightly creating an angle of about 15 - 30 degrees.
