Does the button have to be kept pushed down during grooming?
-NO.It clicks and locks into place. When you are done you click again and it retracts. It's a clicker button just like pens. Click it once and it stays out, click it again and it goes in.

How to self-clean?
-It's super easy to clean just push the medium green button and bristles retract then. and wipe the hair off.

How long are the bristles?
-About 3/8 inch.

Using Method:
1 Brush your pet's fur for once time in morning and night,and each time you need to brush for 5 minutes.
2 Carding Order - Along the direction of fur growth,brush your pet's fur from neck to shoulder and then to chest,waist,abdomen,abdomen,rear quarters and then to the head,the last are legs and tail.
3 Carding Skill - Along the direction of fur growth,gently move your brush.Especially for some long fur pets,you need to brush layered fur.
