Product Review
Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) is the largest of all Hemlocks and the State Tree of Washington. It is native to the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Canada, and usually occurs within 75 miles of the Pacific Coast, in temperate rain forests below 6,000 feet; however, there is an outlying inland population in the Rocky Mountains (British Columbia, Idaho, and Montana).
Sometimes called "the Queen of Conifers" and described as "a slender tower of lush, elegant beauty," the Western Hemlock has purple-brown bark; glossy, deep green leaves; and a gracefully-arched leading shoot which lends the tree a singular loveliness. Western Hemlock foliage is inviting, soft to the touch, and fern-like.
This impressive tree can grow more than 250 feet tall (with trunks up to 4 feet across) and can live for more than 1,200 years. Western Hemlocks love the sun, but are very shade-tolerant also and prefer wetter sites.
