The Aronia Berry, (also called chokeberry) is one of the world's richest and most powerful antioxidant superfruit. Aronia is famous for its high Vitamin C and E content as well as anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are naturally found in a number of foods, this is what gives many berries that vibrant red, purple and blue pigment. In addition to fighting free radicals, anthocyanins may offer anti-inflammatory and anti-viral benefits. The oxygen radical absorbency capacity or ORAC (measurement of antioxidant strength of food items) demonstrates chokeberry with one of the highest values yet recorded among berries-16,062. Aronia berry fruit and anthocyanins derived from the fruits have been studied intensively, particularly in Bulgaria and eastern Europe. Aronia berry are one of the richest plant sources of phenolic substances, mainly anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are water soluble pigments accounting for the dark blue and even black color of the fruits.
