Spirulina is a cyanobacterium, also known as blue-green algae. It was discovered in Lake Texcoco by the Aztec peoples of Eastern Mexico. Praised by health nuts and scientists for its nutritious qualities, it's commonly found in the form of a dark green powder, or even tablets. Spirulina is about 60% protein by weight. It includes all essential amino acids, the building blocks of protein, making it a complete protein. Spirulina is also high in B vitamins, especially B12, and the dietary minerals iron and manganese. The easiest way to use Chosen Foods Organic Spirulina is to blend it into your daily smoothie, but it can also be used in guacamole, salad dressings, baked goods, mixed into water or juice, or sprinkled over snacks like popcorn.
