Oplatek taken from the Latin word oblatum, meaning Sacred Bread, has been the symbol of Christianity and Jesus Christ our bread of life since the Last Supper. The Oplatek is a must have for those people who value holiday traditions and celebrate Christmas Eve (Wigilia) every year. For many Eastern European families in Poland, Lithuania, the Czech and Slovakia, the Christmas Eve is the most important night. Right before the supper, all members of the family will break and share oplatek along with best wishes and blessings. This beautiful tradition of breaking and sharing of the Oplatek - Christmas Wafer, has been practiced for centuries on the Holiest Night of the year!
