Inflate balloons with 10% of air, then 90% of helium to keep confetti scattered inside and help extend floating time. Conduct static electricity by rubbing a soft fabric cloth against the balloon, so the confetti clings to the latex walls. In preparation for a party, test only one balloon the day before to monitor heat, humidity, or rain in your environment. Helium is sensitive to temperature; cold weather will shrink balloons, while heat will pop balloons. Confetti adds more weight to the balloon, which affects flotation time. Generally, 12-inch latex balloons filled with helium will float between 6-10 hours. Balloons filled with air will stay inflated between 8-10 hours outdoors and 12-20 hours indoors. Inflate balloons with less than the maximum amount of helium if you plan to use it outdoors. Over inflate it first and release some air after. This way, it doesn't pop when the helium inside expands due to higher temperatures. Avoid placing balloons near sources of heat and direct sunlight.
