When then-Prince Travis decided that killing the rest of the royal family of the Terran Empire was the best way for him to get ahead, that caused problems, mainly because he didn't get them all. Princess Merida, now the rightful Empress, has been leading a civil war against her brother, the Usurper for months now, trying to win back her throne. Unfortunately, the higher ranking nobles and admirals like the Usurper's naivete and hawkish stance on war, so she's badly outnumbered.

Knowing that, if Travis wins the Civil War, he'll turn his attention to them next, Confederate leaders have started preparing for the inevitable war. But that takes time, time they might not have if something isn't done to slow the Usurper's forces. They can't take official action without starting the war themselves, but perhaps they'll be able to find a Nomad willing to play privateer? Someone like Captain Mollen?
