The history of Higonokami can be dated back to late 19th century, where Higonokami got its name from its main trading market, Kumamoto Prefecture, which was named "Higonokuni" in ancient time. The maker, Nagaokoma Seisakusho, was found in the 27th year of Meiji era (1894). It has a history of more than a century and is the only trademark owner of "Higonokami" as of today.
