The materials of this machine is plastic, so it will smell a bit like plastic , here's a method to remove the odor: 
Adsorption method: Soak the trays and lids in milk, vinegar, baking soda, light salt water, tea, rice soup or rice water, grapefruit peel, pineapple block, white wine, dilute sulfuric acid. Some of the taste can be removed after a while.
Nowadays there are many activated carbon air purifying bags sold in supermarkets. The plastics can also be put into it to remove the odor. The more activated the charcoal is, the better the adsorption effect. 
Remove the trays from the dehydrator for cleaning and immerse them in warm water, which can submerge the trays. 
Use a small toothbrush to clean hard to reach areas and remove any remaining particles from the trays and in the dryer.
