Our Lithop soil has been specifically formulated to keep lithops happy. The substrate is a pumice base which helps assure drainage while holding moisture long enough for the lithop to drink. Pure substrate promotes active root growth and fibrous lithop roots. The benefit to this soil is that it will dry evenly in most situations so you do not need to worry about the soil in the center of the pot being soaked while the soil on the outside is totally dry. As with any new soil, be sure to pay attention to watering practices. This soil is a premium product specifically formulated for lithops. That being said, there are many factors that will come into play as far as watering goes. Here are a few: 1. The depth of the pot is important. A shallow pot will stay wetter longer than a deeper pot. This is due to the gravitational pull of the water on itself in the confined space. If you want this soil to stay wet longer, plant in a shallow pot. If you want this soil to dry quickly, plant in a deeper pot. In general lithops like to stay wet for a minimal amount of time and they have very special water requirements. Be sure to look up proper lithop watering a care if you are new to lithops. 2. The weather and humididy in any given environment will vary as with the amount of time the soil stays wet (except for a few climates that do not change) 3. The uptake of water by the lithop or lithops. If you have many lithops in a pot and they are all actively drinking the soil may dry faster than lithops that are not drinking.
