These little guys are from the animated movie "Princess Mononoke" Released in 1999 by Hayao Miyazaki, but was originally released in Japan in 1997. The original title was "Mononoke-hime". These trees pirits, or Kodama, are based on Japanese folklore-they are spirits that inhabit trees, similar to the dryads of Greek mythology.
