One of the key ingredients to a good soil mix for your Bonsai is drainage, especially during rainy seasons. This is a professional soil mix which allows you to water your tree on a daily bases without the worry of over watering. This soil mix has all the essential ingredients to ensure that your Bonsai is in optimum growing conditions. It has been blended in house by our professional team at The Bonsai Supply. This soil mix is made out of aggregates that are responsible for aeration, water drainage, water uptake, acidity, and nutrient uptake. At the Bonsai Supply, we use this soil mix for all of our Bonsai's, from Adenium's, Ficus, Elms, Maples, Fukien Teas, Jades to Black Pines. This soil mix is so good, it can be used even for other plants, succulents and herbs. What is our soil made of? 1) Pumice is a volcanic rock, it helps with aeration and water drainage, the roots like to crush these volcanic rocks which helps make them stronger. Pumice is the must have growing medium for a strong and healthier root system. Pumice is a natural volcanic rock with over 70 natural minerals and vitamins that will help your plant build a very strong and healthy root system. 2) Lava Rock is a volcanic rock, which helps with aeration and water drainage. 3) Turface is calcined clay, it helps with water retention and adds acidity to your soil mix which plants love. 4) Pine Bark is an excellent aggregate for nutrient uptake and release.That means that when you fertilize your Plan, all the nutrients are being taken up by the pine bark which allows the roots of your Bonsai tree to take the nutrients as needed from the Pine Bark. If there is not an aggregate such as pine bark in your soil mix, the nutrients are being flushed right out the bottom of your pot.
