This recording featuring Isabelle Faust and Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin explores works by Johann Sebastian Bach that were, in one form or another, originally written or conceived as violin showpieces. Along with the famous Violin Concertos BWV 1041-43, a selection of of overtures, trio sonatas, and concertos now associated with other instruments, are performed here on violin as the composer intended. Hearing Faust play the famous Badinerie from the second Orchestral Suite (normally played on flute) is a reminder that the author of The Well-Tempered Clavier was also a virtuoso violinist.

  • Concerto per violino BWV 1052 in re
  • Sinfonia BWV 174
  • Concerto per violino BWV 1042 n.2 (1717) in MI
  • Cantata BWV 21 (sinfonia)
  • Triosonata BWV 529 (1727) n.5 in DO
