It is used often to hold doors, cabinets, windows, dampers and chutes open. When there is a fire and the heat temperature reaches 165 Degrees Fahrenheit or 74 Celsius, the fusible link will separate apart allowing the closing of the door or damper to close and stop the smoke and or fire from traveling through.

The chute industry uses this fusible link for most of its discharge doors including Trash, Laundry, Rubbish, Recycling, and Linen systems.
