Born on April 2, 1939, Marvin Gaye was a singer, songwriter and record producer, who helped shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s. Songs like "Let's Get It On" and "Sexual Healing" have become staples in many black and brown communities. Gaye was fatally shot by his father, Marvin Gaye Sr. on April 1, 1984. He was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Gaye joins a number of music icons featured in Postal Service's Music Icons series, including John Lennon and Elvis Presley.
