About Ignition Coils

An ignition coil, or spark coil, is an induction coil which transforms the batterys low voltage into the thousands of volts needed to create an electric spark in the spark plugs to ignite the fuel. Then you need an ignition coil to start your car. If your car is backfiring, misfiring, having problems starting, or stalling, it could be your ignition coils. Failing ignition coils could even lead to a drop in fuel economy, since less power in your spark plugs means your vehicle will struggle and use more fuel to compensate for the lack of power transfer. It's highly recommended to change spark plugs when you change your ignition coil(s), and always use dielectric grease to protect the electrical connections.
