Trichomoniasis (or "Trich") is a very common infection caused by a protozoan parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. Most people, about 70%, who have the parasite have no symptoms. It is the most common curable sexual infection in the USA with over 3.5 million new cases annually. Individuals who have been diagnosed with Trichomoniasis previously have a 20% chance of getting it again within a few months of initial diagnosis. Anyone who has a sexual partner with known Trichomoniasis should be tested, and any individual who has had unprotected sex should consider getting tested.
