Tricyrtis latifolia. Early Toad Lily. This species is native to China and Japan. The stems are upright and reach less than two feet high. Individual leaves are broadly ovate and may be 5 or 6 inches in length and light green in color with a sheen overlaying the heavily veined surface. Flowers are in cymes above the foliage, yellow in color with brown spots. This is the first toad lily to bloom in my garden each year. Count on the flowers during mid to late June, into July. Mine is planted with hosta, false Solomon's seal, and lady ferns. Hardy in zones 4-9.
