In 2004 the USPS issued this 37 cent stamp as the 24th in the Black Heritage Series. Actor, singer, scholar, athlete, humanitarian, and civil rights activist Paul Robeson (1898-1976), the son of a former slave. Robeson used his deep baritone voice and theatrical talent to promote African and African-American history and culture.
