This classic Italian paste tomato is considered by many to be the world's best! It is so high-yielding, the plants literally drip with fruit. A low sugar, low-acid tomato, it has a high solids content and excellent flavor. It really does make the best sauce, ask any Italian! Also called, the \sausage" tomato, its long thin slices are great for sandwiches. Gourmet chefs often slice it diagonally and top it with Parmesan cheese slices and pesto for an appetizer. The oblong red fruits are 3"-4" long and 1.5" wide. An indeterminate variety, it must be caged or staked and produces fruit continually until the first fall frost. If you would prefer more compact, bush type paste tomato plants that will fruit all at once (good for making that big pot of sauce), try growing the Italian Roma. If you have room, grow both!
