Impatiens walleriana are sweet little annuals that offer lots of color for the shady areas of the landscape. This Baby Orange variety has lovely orange blooms that look wonderful in containers or baskets on a shaded patio. Or, grow them in the front of a shady flower border. Impatiens are profuse bloomers and bloom freely from spring through fall. The foliage is shiny and attractive too with nice uniform growth. They also make great houseplants and can add some welcome color to the home during the winter months. Start the seed indoors 8 - 10 weeks before the last expected frost date. Press the seed into the soil but do not cover it. Keep the seed moist until germination. With a temperature of 72 - 76F, germination is usually within 10 days. Transplant the young plants outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Space the plants 8 - 12 inches apart. Grow in partial shade to full shade and in moist, well-drained soil.
