This Black Ball Cornflower may not be a true black, but it is pretty close! It is a deep, rich claret color which looks even darker on cloudy days. Cornflowers, often referred to as Bachelor's Button, are a very unusual form of the traditional cottage garden plant. Centaurea cyanus add a touch of drama to summer borders and wildlife gardens where they will attract bees and butterflies to their pretty blooms. This tall variety of Centaurea makes an excellent cut flower for the indoor flower vase. Cornflower flower seeds are quite large, making them very easy to establish. Sow Cornflower seed in the spring outdoors into a prepared seedbed after frost danger has passed. Cover seed inch deep, and keep it moist. They like a position in full sun to partial shade.
