Product Review
Deer Tongue Plant, also known as Pineland Purple or Vanillaleaf, is a 1' to 3' tall native perennial. It is restricted in distribution to the Southeast Coastal Plain and is usually found growing in dry to medium soils and in full sun. It is found growing in pine flatwoods, palmetto prairies, open fields, and in longleaf pine understory. It is a great native garden plant with pretty, small, deep purple flowers in terminal clusters on mostly naked stems. Deer Tongue Plant is used primarily in the rear of planting areas in small groups and widely in wildflower mixes. The leaves of this plant were used in the pipe tobacco industry in the past. It is a good pollinator conservation plant.
