Country of origin: USA Angel's Trumpets (Brugmansias) grow into a large branched tree like shrubs.
Cherub is a more dwarfed and full growing cultivar maturing at about 8 ft. Flowers are slightly smaller than average, at about 6 inches long, but appear in larger numbers with a longer cycle than the larger growers.
They are tropical and must protected from freezing temperatures. Cherub Angel's trumpets cycle into bloom 3 to 4 times per year with large hanging bugle shaped flowers.
The pink to white flowers are highly fragrant at night.
Plant in well drained soil where plant can be well irrigated until well established. Can be grown as a potted plant indefinitely. All parts of this plant are considered toxic.
- Brugmansias, or Angels Trumpets, are fast-growing, tropical shrubs with beautiful, trumpet-shaped flowers. They are highly fragrant at night and lend a romantic feel to any garden location. Mature plants will cycle into bloom several times during the warm season and are a nectar source for night pollinators such as Luna moths.
- Cherub is a registered Brugmansia hybrid. This tropical shrub grows short and compact, maturing at about 8 ft. Flowers appear in large numbers over a long bloom cycle. The petite peachy-pink, white-throated trumpets have large flared mouths with sharp, unturned corners punctuated by short curled whiskers. The abundant blooms hang almost vertically all along branches and permeate the nighttime air with a sweet, heady scent.
- Care: The most suitable planting location for Brugmansia is in dappled afternoon shade, as they need a full spectrum of bright, indirect light for 4 to 6 hours daily to produce flowers. Plant in well-draining soil high in organic content. Provide supplemental irrigation as needed, but avoid overwatering. Prune lightly and often to help with branching. Feed a good quality, slow-release, bloom-boosting fertilizer annually in the Spring. Protect from frost and freezing.
- Indoor Growing: Brugmansias are not recommended for growing indoors. They require full sun, high temperatures, and high humidity, which makes them unsuitable for indoor growing environments.
- Climate: Brugmansias are tropical plants. They are recommended for growing outdoors in USDA Zones 9, 10, and 11. Protection from cold temperatures is required in all zones for the longest life, overall vigor, and earliest flowering. Note that Zone recommendations are based on average temperatures, and do not take factors such as humidity, rainfall, or day/night temperature variances into consideration. Individual growing environments can vary from the average.
