Dendrobium kingianum is an extremely easy orchid that anyone can grow. It comes from eastern Australia where it can handle temperatures near freezing in the winter, and near triple digits in the summer. It is a fast-growing orchid that tolerates a wide range of conditions, making it perfect for the beginning orchid grower. Its long-lasting blooms (around a month) also produce a beautiful fragrance. The plant is compact, and can easily be grown indoors in the home or office, or outdoors on a patio (just bring it in during before freezing). It will readily adapt to almost any kind of loose media such as bark or even rocks (it is also known as the rock orchid). It only needs light, water, and occasional fertilizing to thrive. Dendrobium kingianum would make a perfect addition to any orchid or plant collection, or a wonderful gift for someone who enjoys growing beautiful plants. This plant is a mature, blooming size plant. This species blooms in the spring, after a winter rest. Give it cooler temps in the 50 F range and drastically reduce watering during November - December to set the flower spikes for spring.
