The shaft of each shelf peg is 5mm in diameter and is 5/16" in length, giving you plenty enough "bite" to support most loads. The "spoon" part that actually projects into the cabinet is an unobtrusive 5/16" wide x 7/16" deep. Again... perfectly up to the task of handling any normal load.
